College Bound student Xavier Brackett and his father Sheldon Brackett of Torrance, Calif. met with Acura ZDX exterior designer Michelle Christiansen Tuesday, December 15 at the headquarters of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. The 14-year-old ninth grader at Torrance High School hopes to one day become an automobile designer. The Acura ZDX is an all-new model that just went on sale yesterday and Michelle talked to Xavier about her design for the vehicle and her path to becoming a designer. College Bound provides academic programs and services which prepare students like Xavier for admission and graduation from college. College Bound is one of seven youth-oriented philanthropies which will be featured on Honda's Rose Parade float, "Ship of Dreams," during the 121th Rose Parade on Friday, Jan. 1, 2010 at 8 a.m. PST. Representatives from each of the organizations, including Xavier and his father, will be riding on the float when it sets sail in front of millions of viewers watching from around the world. In addition to College Bound, Honda's 45-foot-tall, 75-foot long Rose Parade float will feature the names and logos Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County, National Youth Project Using Minibikes (NYPUM), Pediatric Therapy Network, Ride for Kids, Special Olympics Southern California, and Students Run L.A.
