Since its introduction, the CRF450R has served as the standard by which all other bikes are judged in the big-bore class of motocross machines. In 2012, Honda raises the bar once again with a host of improvements that will help the CRF450R stay at the head of the pack. New stiffer fork construction among other refinements bring a more solid feel to the front end, and stiffer fork springs, revised suspension settings front and rear plus a new shock linkage yield improved tracking, more precise handling and added rider confidence over rough terrain. New, longer and wider footpegs offer more support with a larger platform and Dunlop's premium MX51 tires add to an overall package that makes the CRF450R the bike of choice in the open-class for 2012.

New for 2012

New, stiffer fork outer tubes and front axle collars bring a more solid feel to the front end.
Stiffer fork springs, revised suspension settings front and rear plus a new shock linkage yield improved tracking, more precise handling and added rider confidence over rough terrain.
New footpegs are wider and longer for more support, and are now silver color.
Premium Dunlop MX51 tires front and rear.
New chain roller for added durability.

Engine/Drivetrain

Liquid-cooled four-valve Unicam® 449cc engine utilizes a four-lobe camshaft and individual rocker arms for each exhaust valve to reduce weight and contribute to high rpm ceiling.
Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) system utilizes a single 46mm throttle body design with 12-hole injection nozzle fed by lightweight 50-psi pump to ensure optimum fuel atomization and precisely targeted fuel charge.
PGM-FI system monitors throttle position, intake air and coolant temperatures and air pressure to accurately map fuel charge and ignition spark, significantly improving partial-throttle response and helping ensure excellent rideability.
Twin-sump lubrication system separates the oil supply for the crankshaft, piston and valve train from the clutch and transmission. This ensures a cool supply of oil to the clutch, eliminates clutch and transmission material contamination of the engine oil and reduces the amount of circulating oil, allowing the oil pump size to be reduced.
Exhaust system incorporates a left-side cylinder-head exhaust port, increasing header length and allowing muffler to be positioned closer to center of mass, contributing to significantly improved weight distribution and handling.
Gear-driven balancer reduces vibration and drives the water pump.

Chassis/Suspension

Front fork features stiffer springs, more rigid outer tubes and all-new valving for increased stability, improved control and increased ride plushness.
Revised shock valving offers improved tracking and control while maintaining consistent bump impact performance.
New suspension linkage assembly produces improved chassis balance, increased stability, tracking, and rider confidence in rough terrain.
Honda Progressive Steering Damper (HPSD)-equipped twin-spar aluminum frame produces nimble turning and confidence-inspiring handling.
HPSD features a compact damper attached to the lower triple clamp and the steering head to allow more aggressive steering characteristics and assist straight-line handling. Damping action smoothly progresses as handlebar deflection increases, which produces very natural steering characteristics and feel.
Removable rear subframe allows easy air filter access while maintaining a narrow bike profile.
Air-Oil-Separated (AOS) fork features exclusive Honda 48mm-diameter fork made by KYB with all-new damping settings.
Pro-Link® Rear Suspension features exclusive KYB integrated-reservoir shock absorber with all-new damping settings.
Link-type front-brake master cylinder and a lightweight 240mm brake rotor provide strong braking.
240mm rear-brake rotor features works-style pattern and uses a lightweight plastic disc guard.

Additional Features

Compact muffler lowers sound emissions to 94 dB.
Engine stop switch features an integrated LED pre-ride check indicator. This confirms the PGM-FI system is operating normally.
PGM-FI tuning connectors located behind radiator shroud for easy access.
Rider ergonomics are optimized by adapting the handlebar, seat and footpeg height to place the rider's legs at the narrowest part of the frame for improved comfort, handling and feel.
Adjustable front-brake lever for improved control.

CRF450R: American Honda Announces 2011 Off-Road Models and ATVs

American Honda Motor Company's Powersports Division announced to its dealers today an additional release of off-road models and ATVs for the 2011 model year. These Hondas include the CRF450R and CRF250R motocross machines, CRF70F and CRF50F off-road motorcycles, the FourTrax Rancher family of ATVs, and the sporty TRX250X.

"Honda is ramping up its release of 2011 models," said Powersports Press Manager Bill Savino. "We're proud to unveil our newest race bikes, the CRF450R and CRF250R motocrossers, plus a wide assortment of Honda off-road machines that have remained extremely popular with recreational riders over the years. With these models for 2011 and more to follow, this is certainly going to be a great year for riding enthusiasts."

- The Class of the Open-Class MX Bikes: Honda CRF450R
Long regarded as the bike of choice in the big-bore motocross division, the 2011 CRF450R incorporates a host of improvements that will help this bike retain its standing as the yardstick by which all others in the class are compared. Various tweaks to the engine tuning broaden the already prodigious powerband-more low-end pull and midrange grunt-while also enhancing throttle response via a new throttle body.

In addition, revised suspension linkage and settings yield improved control, increased ride plushness and enhanced rear-wheel traction. A new Honda Progressive Steering Damper (HPSD) with a larger damper piston (24mm versus 20mm) produces even better tracking traits than before. In addition, the CRF450R now features a newly designed muffler that meets the sound levels of 94 decibels required by some racing organizations in 2011, making it competition-legal right off the showroom floor. - The Award-Winning Honda CRF250R Gets Better Yet in 2011
Despite winning numerous comparison tests and awards in 2010, the CRF250R enters the new season sporting a number of improvements that will help it continue its winning ways. A new Honda Progressive Steering Damper (HPSD) with a larger, 24mm damper piston aids tracking precision, and new suspension settings front and rear help give this stellar-handling machine even better chassis balance for 2011. Changes to engine tuning now give the CRF250R a stronger bottom-end and midrange hit, and this 2011 model features a new muffler that meets sound levels of 94 dB required by some racing organizations. - Family-Friendly CRF70F and CRF50F Return in 2011
In a completely different segment within the vast Honda spectrum, the family-friendly CRF70F and CRF50F return to the lineup in 2011. Featuring an automatic clutch, low seat height and a three-speed transmission, the CRF70F has long served as a practically perfect choice for beginning riders. Credit too the torquey 72cc air-cooled single-cylinder four-stroke engine that has grown to near-legendary status for reliability over the years. Likewise, for more than 40 years the CRF50F has introduced legions of riders the world over to the sport of motorcycling. It tips the scales at an unintimidating 110 pounds and the little CRF50F boasts a tough 49cc air-cooled single-cylinder four-stroke engine renown for its durability plus an ultra-low seat height, automatic clutch, three-speed transmission and an inverted fork.
