Statement from Honda Regarding Takata Guilty Plea – 01/13/2017

Honda is deeply saddened by the harm Takata’s wrongdoing has caused to our customers. Honda remains focused on our urgent efforts to prevent additional injuries from the rupture of Takata airbag inflators. We urge owners of affected vehicles to complete the required recall repairs immediately. These repairs are free at all authorized Honda and Acura dealerships throughout the country.

In particular, Honda associates are making urgent efforts to reach customers of certain 2001-2003 Honda and Acura vehicles with airbag inflators that have an alarming rupture rate of as high as 50 percent in testing. Honda continues to urge owners of these recalled vehicles to seek repair immediately, and the company joins NHTSA in advising that the only place these unrepaired vehicles should be driven is to an authorized dealer for repair.

[Note to the Media: Please include the following as you report this story.]

Honda currently has enough replacement inflators to complete the required repairs for all models subject to the open recalls, and we continue to encourage all Honda and Acura vehicle owners to immediately check for open recalls at www.recalls.honda.com and www.recalls.acura.com and contact an authorized dealer as soon as possible to schedule the free repair. Any concerned customer can also contact Automobile Customer Service at 888-234-2138.
