Statement by American Honda Regarding Rear Subframe Bolt Recall: 2019-2020 Honda CR-V

  • 358 vehicles are affected in the United States
  • For Free: Replacement of certain rear subframe bolts; All subframe bolts will be tightened to the correct factory specification
  • No reports of related crashes or injuries

American Honda will voluntarily recall 358 model-year 2019-2020 Honda CR-V vehicles in the United States to inspect certain rear subframe bolts and, based on that inspection, replace some or all of those bolts, for free. Dealer technicians will tighten all subframe bolts to the correct factory specification. Bolts used to secure the rear subframe may lack a required wax coating, potentially allowing them to loosen over time. If a bolt loosens enough, the rear subframe may separate, which could increase the risk of a crash. Honda discovered this issue during factory inspections, with no related reports of crashes or injuries.

Honda encourages each owner of an affected vehicle to schedule an inspection appointment with an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification of this recall from Honda. Mailed notification to owners will begin in mid-Jan. 2020. Owners of these models can also determine if their specific vehicles are included in the recall by visiting www.recalls.honda.com or by calling (888) 234-2138.
