1992 Acura Integra GS-R Introduction

Introduction

The introduction of the Integra GS-R signals the entry of Acura into a new category
of automobile: the high-performance sports sedan class. The GS-R represents the
highest levels of technology available in a mass-produced automobile-many features
of the innovative GS-R VTEC engine were pioneered in the state-of-the-art NSX
mid-engine sports car, or were first seen in the Honda engines used on the Formula
One Grand Prix circuit. The design team responsible for the GS-R VTEC engine, for
example, is the same team that designed the lOOO-horsepowerV-6turbocharged
Formula One engines used in the 1987Grand Prix season.

The Acura spirit has been described as "an intense emotional involvement with
cars." The Integra GS-R is a clear manifestation of that spirit. Its highly efficient,
technologically advanced powerplant produces more power per liter than any other
normally aspirated automobile engine sold in the U.S. Its high redline and lightweight
components make it the most responsive engine ever produced for an Acura.
And its advanced suspension and chassisengineering help make it an extraordinary
sports sedan, one designed and built by engineers dedicated to the idea of driving as a
source of inspiration and sheer fun.

Overview

The front-engine, front-wheel-drive Integra GS-R is powered by a 1.7-liter, 16-valve,
dual overhead camshaft, all-aluminum, 160-horsepower,inline 4-cylinder engine.
It uses the Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC) system to
increase high rpm power while enhancing low- and mid-range power and driveability.
The GS-R is available only with a special five-speed manual transmission.

The chassis of the G~-R features 4-wheel independent double-wishbone
suspension, 4-wheel disc brakes and a Honda R&D-designed Anti-Lock Braking
System (ABS). A speed-sensitive, variable power-assisted, rack-and-pinion steering
system provides precise steering response and feel with changing road speed.

The GS-R is available in Frost White, Milano Red and Aztec Green. It features
a full complement of convenience features such as power windows, power door locks
and a power moonroof with sliding shade, along with an AM/FM stereo/cassette
audio system with an anti-theft feature. The GS-R is accented with special red-striped
moquette upholstery and an aerodynamic rear spoiler which incorporates a built-in
LED high-mount brakelight.
