1992 Acura Legend Introduced

Continuing the impressive success of the second generation Legend automobile, the Acura Division of American Honda Motor Co., Inc., introduces the 1992 Legend Sedan and Legend Coupe. The Legend Sedan and Coupe, totally redesigned and re-engineered for the 1991 model year, incorporate a number of noteworthy refinements for 1992.

As in 1991, the Legend Sedan and Coupe are powered by an all-aluminum, 3.2-liter, 24-valve, SOHC V-6 engine, producing 200 horsepower. An advanced, three-stage Variable Induction System increases torque throughout the engine's operating range, and Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) helps to ensure efficient operation under all driving conditions.

The engine/transmission package is oriented longitudinally to achieve the ideal 60/40 weight balance for a front wheel-drive performance/luxury car. A racing-inspired double-wishbone suspension, front and rear, delivers precise, responsive handling combined with excellent ride quality.

A precise 5-speed manual transmission is standard, while an electronically controlled four-speed automatic is available as an option.

For ease of control at lower speeds, and precise road feel at all speeds, a sophisticated, electronically controlled, speed-sensitive, variable power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering system is incorporated.

Both Legend body styles were designed for aerodynamic efficiency. Clean, aerodynamic lines penetrate the wind with a minimum of turbulence, and details such as nearly-flush glass panels and minimized gaps between body sections reduce wind noise and increase fuel efficiency. The fine exterior finish is achieved using a, 23 step 4-coat, 4-bake paint process.

The four-door Legend Sedan is offered in three trim levels: Sedan, a more elaborately equipped L and the top-of-the-line LS. The two-door Legend Coupe is offered in Land LS models only.

The configuration of the unit-body chassis incorporates specific impact absorption zones, to help lessen the impact on the occupants in the event of a collision. All Legend models feature a driver's side Supplemental . Restraint System (SRS) air bag; Land LS models have a passenger's side SRS air bag as well. An automatic seat belt tensioner is also incorporated on the front seats of all models.

Four-wheel disc brakes provide impressive stopping power, and a standard Honda R&D-designed Anti Lock Braking System (ABS) helps the driver retain steering control during hard braking.

The luxurious, driver-oriented interior is not only rich in feel and appearance, but is also designed to the most exacting ergonomic standards. Slim roof pillars offer an open, spacious greenhouse for excellent allaround visibility, and each instrument and control is designed and positioned for easy access and operation.

Moquette upholstery is standard on Sedan and L models, while soft-finish leather seating surfaces, door panel inserts and trim are standard in LS models and optional in L models. LS models also come with burled walnut accenting the center console and armrests; Sedan and L models feature simulated walnut on the center console. All models feature a convenient beverage holder.

The driver's seat incorporates a power height adjustment and adjustable lumbar support, while L and LS models have an upgraded 8-way power driver's seat with a memory function. LS models also include 4-way power passenger seat and heated front seats.

Interior comfort is assured in all weather situations by a high-capacity air conditioning and heating system standard on all Legend models, with an Automatic Climate Control System standard on LS models. A power operated moonroof is standard on L and LS models.

The standard Legend audio system is a fully electronic AM/FM stereo/cassette unit. L models add a 7-band programmable graphic equalizer, a FM diversity antenna system and an anti-theft feature, and LS models feature a state-of-the-art Acura/Bose® Music System. A multi-disc CD changer and hands-free cellular telephone are also available as dealer installed options.

The Legend Sedan with a manual transmission achieves an impressive 18 mpg city and 26 mpg highway while the automatic transmission version achieves an equally impressive 19 mpg city and 24 mpg highway. All Legend models are covered by a 3-year, 36,000-mile limited warranty.

The Acura Division of American Honda offers a range of performance/ luxury automobiles that includes the NSX, the Legend Sedan and Coupe, the Vigor, and the Integra 3- and 4-door sports sedans.
