Driving Is Its Own Reward: 2001 Integras Offer Performance and Style

Deeply rooted in NSX heritage, the 2001 Acura Integra line of Sports Coupes and Sports Sedans combine luxury and performance in an affordable and dependable package. For 2001, the Integra line, equipped with sporty engines and a fun-to-drive quotient few cars can match, offers Acura's respected quality and outstanding value.

The Integra line is anything but entry-level, featuring an aerodynamically aggressive exterior, ergonomic interior, advanced powertrain and superb road manners. As one of the top-selling automobiles in its class for five consecutive years, Integra's combination of sporty performance and excellent quality offers nothing short of a highly satisfying driving experience.

"From the inside out, the Integra benefits from the same Acura engineering and technologies that enhance the performance and handling in all of our vehicles," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president, Acura division. "With an impressive powertrain and contemporary styling, the Acura Integra continues as a leader in its segment."

The third-generation, sporty 2001 Integras feature a number of technological innovations that enhance performance and handling and provide high levels of safety, durability, efficiency, comfort and ride quality. In addition to the high-performance Integra Type R Sports Coupe, the 2001 line offers three models &emdash; LS, GS and GS-R, with a choice of coupe or sedan body styles.

Integra LS and GS models are equipped with an all-aluminum 1.8-liter, DOHC, 16-valve 4-cylinder engine that produces a spirited 140-hp at 6,300 rpm and 127 lb.-ft. of torque at 5,200 rpm. Coupled to either a 5-speed manual or an optional, electronically controlled 4-speed automatic transmission, the LS and GS engines deliver lively response and excellent acceleration, along with smooth shift quality, while long-wearing platinum-tipped spark plugs also allow the Integra to travel 105,000 miles between scheduled tune-ups.

The Integra GS-R is ideal for the driving enthusiast who desires more power. The 1.8-liter, DOHC 4-cylinder has been massaged to produce 170-hp at 7,600 rpm and 128 lb.-ft. of torque at 6,200 rpm. The Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC?) system, first applied in the NSX supercar, is at the heart of the GS-R's power increase. This VTEC system enables the engine to produce generous low-end torque and outstanding high rpm power to ensure exceptional performance at any engine speed.

In addition, Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI), a dual-stage intake system, and oil jet piston cooling are included to enhance the GS-R's performance and dependability. Integra GS-R models are available exclusively with a performance-oriented, close-ratio 5-speed manual transmission.

At the heart of the Integra's sporty handling is a sophisticated double wishbone suspension, variable power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering and fade-resistant four-wheel disc brakes. All Integra models also feature a four-wheel Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) as standard equipment to help the driver maintain steering control under hard braking.

All Integras are equipped with a thorough list of standard comfort and convenience items, including a six-speaker AM/FM/CD music system, a high-capacity air conditioning system, power moonroof, power windows and door mirrors, tilt-adjustable steering column and a vehicle immobilizer anti-theft system as standard equipment. Environmentally conscious consumers will find that all Integras meet Transitional Low Emission Vehicle (TLEV) standards for tailpipe emissions.

To help ensure the security of its occupants, the Integra features a rigid unit-body structure with front and rear crumple zones, side impact door beams and pads, dual airbags and 5-mph front and rear bumpers.

For 2001, all Integras will offer carpeted floor mats as standard equipment and the Integra Sports Sedans will feature an emergency trunk opener. In addition, four new exterior colors have been added to the line including Nighthawk Black, Satin Silver, Titanium and Ruby Red

The 2001 Integras, like all Acura vehicles, are covered by a comprehensive

4-year/50,000-mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty. Additional ownership benefits include Acura Total Luxury Care (TLC), which provides free 24-hour roadside assistance, concierge service and trip routing.
