Statement by American Honda Regarding Electronic Power Steering Recall: 2017-2018 Honda Civic and CR-V

  • 54 vehicles will be recalled in the United States to replace the electronic power steering gear box, for free
  • No related crashes or injuries have been reported

American Honda will voluntarily recall 54 model year 2017-2018 Honda Civic and Honda CR-V vehicles in the United States to replace the electronic power steering (EPS) gear box, free of charge. Torque sensors within the affected gear boxes were manufactured incorrectly and could provide incorrect steering torque information if the steering wheel is turned fully to the end of its range of travel (multiple turns in one direction). This condition could cause the EPS to steer with more force than intended by the driver, increasing the risk of a crash. Honda has received no reports of crashes or injuries related to this issue.

Honda is announcing this recall to encourage owners of affected vehicles to take them to an authorized dealer as soon as possible for the free repair. Mailed notification to owners of affected vehicles will occur in early-November 2018. Owners of these models can also determine if their vehicles require repair now by visiting www.recalls.honda.com or by calling (888) 234-2138.
