Statement by American Honda Regarding Power Sliding Door Latch Recall: 2018-2019 Honda Odyssey

  • Approximately 107,000 Odyssey minivans are affected in the United States
  • Power sliding door latches will be replaced, for free
  • No reports of related injuries

American Honda will voluntarily recall approximately 107,000 Honda Odyssey vehicles from the 2018 and 2019 model years in the United States to replace the left and right power sliding door rear latches, for free.

Certain mechanical components in the power sliding doors' rear latch assemblies may stick and can restrict both the front and rear latches from securely latching to the door strikers. An improperly latched power sliding door can unintentionally open during vehicle operation, increasing the risk of injury for occupants. Honda has received no reports of injuries related to this condition.

At the time of this announcement, Honda has a limited supply of latch repair kits in inventory and anticipates having a more generous supply by late-December. If a dealer is temporarily unable to acquire a repair kit, vehicle owners will be given the option to temporarily disable the power sliding door feature until parts become available. Manual operation of the sliding doors would still be possible in this scenario.

Honda is announcing this recall to encourage each owner of an affected vehicle to take it to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification of this recall from Honda. Mailed notification to customers will begin in late-December 2018. Owners of these models can also determine if their specific vehicles are included in the recall by visiting www.recalls.honda.com or by calling (888) 234-2138.
